JEREMEY- wed night

how jeremy uses structure and nature

naturalistic painter, accuracy was key before grad school

  • started working in more unconventional mediums in grad school
    • playing with space

using influence were asian artwork, points of living in washington and also in new york city

TEXTURE using nothing but shading. color value.

giving inanimate objects personality

precariousness and beauty and strength of human strength and ambition ( temp feelings)

humor in work

naturalistic fantasy

house tree is fave piece so far

its hard to do work that everything in the piece has to be there absolutely

similar mood and disposition but different mood and sounds

naturalism soon to be more apparent in work?

Project statement

I am highly inspired by the Suicide Girls. These women by definition are part of a website that features soft core erotic photos of unconventional looking goth, indie and punk-styled unconventional looking women from all backgrounds, shapes and sizes. The women strike poses in their scantily clad outfits and show off their beautiful body modifications. Most of their inspiration is imitative of mid 1900’s pin up styles, which alone, influence my work a great deal. I bring my experience as a cosmetologist into my photography by manipulating of every aspect of the photo shoot: from hair to makeup to outfits, to assure my photos are true to the suicide girls in every way.

My project goal is to channel my inspiration to demonstrate the power the female form holds, as well as contrasting the feminine and masculine aspects sometimes a woman’s body can convey. I have chosen to express myself through a variety of formats with the intent to effectively conveying myself through my strongest forms of art; digital work, collage, and photography, while incorporating vintage elements with my editing styles, framing, hair and makeup of my models.

In the last few years, my love for tattoos and photographing women has grown exponentially. Some say women should not have tattoos, almost as if they wish for us not to be able to express ourselves to our fullest extent. My goal is to make it apparent that we, as women; have the choice as to how we want to decorate our bodies and express our feelings; while still remaining feminine and graceful.

wednesday night foundations

At the beginning of the day, we took a trip to the international district to view my teacher, Kristen’s work. she had created one of the most beautiful installations i have ever seen. It was so well depicted and intricate- i love how she included her love of jewelry making in her piece, the color was so fitting and everything flowed so beautifully.

As for Etsuko Ichikana, wow, is her work incredible. I am particular drawn to her pyro-graphic drawings. They are so complex yet so simple. it is incredible how much she could describe in such a simple line movement. I also enjoy how attached she is for all of her own pieces and how she describes every element that goes into her work, she has inspired me to someday try glassblowing- and also to collaborate with people in other disciplines more often :)

i feel lucky to have experienced this !
